New charity to be chosen

St Michael and All Angels, Bedford Park

NEW CHARITY

Of the three charities currently being supported by SMAAA for a three-year period, we shall shortly need to replace Water Harvest in line with our rolling programme of selection. Water Harvest has been an excellent partner and works with rural communities in northern India to harvest the monsoon rains, enabling the poorest people to reap the benefits of safer and sustainable water. It serves to help the health, education and income generation of the local communities and the empowerment of women.

In order to comply with our criteria for charity selection, we need to select a charity working overseas to support along with our remaining two local charities: The Upper Room and West London Welcome. The Charities Group is now inviting all members of the congregation to nominate charities which meet the criteria and which can be considered by the Group for recommendation to the PCC for consideration and approval. The chosen charity will be adopted for three years with effect from January 2022.

Charities nominated should be registered in the UK but provide benefits overseas. Attention will also be focused on addressing the big issues facing the world (climate change, education, etc.) and opportunities will be sought for members of the congregation to contribute more practically to the mission of the charity, either as volunteers or Trustees, so that our involvement goes beyond simply giving money. Smaller charities will be favoured as here the funds will make a more significant impact and the relationship can be stronger. Similarly, where large charities are considered, a special project could be given focus for support. Evidence will be sought that the charity has sound governance and that donations are applied in full or in very large part to the services which are provided.

Nomination forms are available from Paula Nelson (paula.nelson@bluewin.ch) or from the Parish Office and should be completed and sent to Paula by Sunday, 12th September 2021.
