Relive The 2012 Hymnathon

Choirs and congregationTwo years ago, we sang all 542 hymns in the New English Hymnal (right). The Hymnathon took over 30 hours, right through the night, and raised over £50,000 for St Michael's Organ & Parish Rooms Appeal. Relive the highlights below

Now that our magnificent Pipe Organ is installed, we’re going to hold a Mini Hymnathon, singing the Top 50 hymns – as decided by your donations. It will last around three hours.

At the finale of the last Hymnathon, we sang the two hymns that raised most money from donors. O Praise Ye The Lord and Guide Me O Thou Great Redeemer tied for the No 1 spot. You can see the final Hymnathon Top Ten here and the final Hymnathon_Top_50 here (with £50 added to the top hymn to start the ball rolling!).

That was our starting point for this year's Hymnathon Top 50. The difference this time was that you could help decide which 50 hymns will be sung, by pledging money for your own favourite hymn(s) - and you can still influence their placing. Look out for our Hymnathon Gift Aid envelopes or bid on our new JustGiving page: Justgiving.com/top50

And it’s not too late to sponsor an organ pipe if you'd like to support the Appeal in a more permanent way. Donations range from £50 for a small pipe to £2,500 for the very largest, or from £14 a month spread over three years - read more about our Pipe Up! scheme, which will close at the end of February.
