An event looking ahead to Christian Aid Week (May 14-20 2017).

pearlsfromheavenFrom 2pm we exhibited manuscripts and works of art from the Syriac Culture, as seen in the book ‘Pearls from Heaven’ Right) by local author and collector Elias Assad.  There was traditional Assyrian Folklore Dancing in front of the church (see dancers above).

There was also an exhibition of drawings by Syrian school children, ‘Impressions of War’, on loan from Aid to the Church in Need www.acnuk.org (the Charity that St Michael’s supported during Lent).

From 3-5pm there were talks and Q&A with an opportunity to learn about the ancient history of the local Syriac Church and Culture right up to the present day. See picture of audience below.

Fairtrade tea and coffee, baklava. Retiring collection in aid of Christian Aid Week.
