London City Orchestra: 5th Anniversary Concert in aid of The Amber Trust
Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1
Strauss’s Der Rosenkavalier Suite
Join us for a very special preview of the London City Orchestra‘s gala concert in the Queen Elizabeth Hall marking the culmination of its 5th Anniversary season. Admission is free with donations to The Amber Trust, one St Michael’s three nominated charities for 2019.
The Orchestra will be joined by outstanding pianist Vitaly Pisarenko, winner of the renowned International Franz Liszt Piano competition in 2008. He will perform Tchaikovsky’s mighty Piano Concerto No. 1. Plus, hear a world premiere by Emma-Kate Matthews, an exciting commission exploring the architecture of the newly refurbished Queen Elizabeth Hall.
They will then perform Strauss’s Der Rosenkavalier Suite. In his opera, Strauss imagined the world in Mozart’s time, a period that for him, in the years before the outbreak of WW1, seemed angelically innocent. The opera was so well received that special trains ran from Berlin to Dresden to bring audiences to its opening run, and this success prompted Strauss to make an orchestral suite from its music.
