Bedford Park Recital Series

In 2007, St Michael & All Angels launched the Bedford Park Peter JablonskiRecital Series, featuring international concert performers. Pianist Peter Jablonski (right) gave a concert in September 2008. The baritone Mark Stone sang Schubert's Winterreise in the church on Saturday January 12th 2008 (see below). The concerts are organised by Rebecca Barham, a top pianist in her own right, who accompanied Mark Stone.

Thursday July 10th 2008 - 7.30pm - Ralph Kirshbaum and Peter Jablonski

The Bedford Park Recital Series presents Ralph Kirshbaumtwo celebrated international performers - the American-born cellist Ralph Kirshbaum and the Swedish pianist Peter Jablonski. Debussy: Sonata on D minor;
Chopin: Sonata Op. 65; Lutolawski: Grave;Shostakovich: Sonata Op. 40. Peter`s latest disc of Chopin and Szymanowski Mazurkas will be on sale and both Peter and Ralph will sign their joint CD after the concert.

Ralph Kirshbaum is described by the Los Angeles Times as being in "...the highest echelon of today's cellists." He has appeared with most of the world's great orchestras and conductors, including Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony, Boston Symphony (Previn), Pittsburgh Symphony (Lutoslawski), London Symphony (Sir Colin Davis), Philharmonia (Slatkin), and BBC Symphony (Andrew Davis). http://www.kirshdem.com/artist.php?id=18&aview=bio

Peter Jablonski has also played with many of the world's top orchestras. He gave his first recital at the age of 10 and came to international recognition eight years later, when Vladimir Ashkenazy invited him to record the Gershwin Piano Concerto for Decca, after hearing him play at the Royal College of Music in London - the youngest post-grad in the College's history. He is artistic director of the Swedish Chamber Philharmonia and the independent record label Altara.

The Bedford Park Recital Series presents cellist Gemma Rosefield and pianist Rebecca Barham (right), performing works by Beethoven - "Magic Flute" Variations; Debussy - Sonata; De Falla - Popular Spanish Songs; and Schumann - Fantasy Pieces. Gemma gave the 2008 Jacqueline du Pre Memorial Concert at the Wigmore Hall in March and won First Prize at the Pierre Fournier competition in 2007. The Strad described her as “a mesmerising musical treasure” and the London Evening Standard called her “a phenomenal talent”. Tickets £10 at the door or from 020 8994 1380. Saturday January 12th 2008 - 7.30pm - Mark Stone - Schubert's Winterreise

The Bedford Park Recital Series presents Mark Stone, baritone, performing Franz Schubert's song cycle Winterreise, op.89: a cycle of 24 songs, poetry by Wilhelm Muller. Mark StoneThe Observer's Anthony Holden wrote of the ENO's La Boheme - 'The star of the show... is Mark Stone's Marcello, whose ringing tone fills the carenous Coliseum'.
