Chiswick and Bedford Park at work We are keen to help schools in any way we can. This year we teamed up with three local primary schools to create a Mural as part of the Bedford Park Festival in June (see report here and picture, right). We also linked up with local schools for Abundance Fruit Day, in our Harvest weekend, and for the young people's poetry and film competitions at our two local Festivals
(see reports here).

Talks and tours

We regularly host local schools in the church and we welcome visits from school parties of all ages. The church building is a great resource, and we are happy to offer church tours. Clergy are glad to be contacted to give school talks on a range of subjects.

There is much in the church to draw and write about. Recent primary school visits have focused on subjects from the importance of churches for Christians to the history of dragons. For older pupils, we can help you offer a theological or church-historical perspective on GCSE and A-Level texts and topics in numerous humanities, and other, disciplines.

Whether you are an early years, primary or a secondary school, our Schools Liaison Officer Tassy Russell (education@smaaa.org.uk) can advise you about how to use St Michael's to enrich your existing syllabus. The influence of Christianity can be an important background to many areas of study across the curriculum. Please contact us to discuss your particular needs.

Assemblies and special events

The clergy at St Michael's are experienced in leading and assisting with assemblies in schools. In addition, local schools often choose to celebrate or commemorate special occasions in the church. Remembrance, Advent & Christmas, Easter are popular times, as is Harvest (which we also marked with local schools this year through Abundance Fruit Day - picture, right).

We can also offer special visits focused around key moments in the church year. Have you considered a project or service using the theme of waiting (Advent)? The history of the World Wars (Remembrance)? Celebrations of Mardi Gras across the world (Lent)? An interfaith perspective on ritual meals (Passover, Easter)? If you have an idea, or would like to hear some of ours, please contact us (education@smaaa.org.uk).

Anything else?

Tassy Russell If you have an idea about how we could help you, why not get in touch to discuss it?

The curate Mother Melanie (curate@smaaa.org.uk) and the Schools Liaison Officer Tassy Russell (education@smaaa.org.uk) (right) both have a background in education. We enjoy hearing from local schools, meeting the children and teachers, and supporting new plans and projects.

Schools frequently make use of our parish rooms. For room hire details see our Parish Hall page, or please contact the Parish Office (parishoffice@smaaa.org.uk).
